Valentine’s Day is approaching, and the gift search begins for your loved one! This can be tricky for even for the most seasoned relationships. While expensive jewelry, sexy lingerie, and romantic trips certainly have their place, sometimes it is nice to keep it simple and fun especially when funds are tight and time is precious. Here are just a few suggestions for keeping Valentine’s Day with your partner creative and simple.
-
Jar of Joy:
This can be a fun project to put together for anyone. You will need any kind of jar (any size will do depending on the amount of goodies you have). Begin filling your jar with small, three to four word love notes, or words of encouragement. You can also add fun trinkets that will bring back a memory from a previous vacation, your wedding, the birth of a child, etc. You can also place favorite candies or silly dollar store items that will bring a smile to your loved one. This jar can go anywhere such as a desk at work or somewhere in the home. The idea is to keep it fun but personal.
-
Craft Challenge:
This can be fun even with kids in tow! All you need is access to a craft store. You and your partner will agree on a budget, perhaps $20-$30 dollars. Then you will need to have a set amount of time to shop. An example would be 30-45 minutes. Once your dollar amount and time are established, take your separate carts and start shopping for items to create handmade, Valentine’s Day gifts! There are tons of ideas such as a hand-painted birdhouse, a picture frame, a small keepsake box, your very own painted canvas etc. The options are endless once you let your mind run wild!
-
Just Dessert:
You and your partner can work together to come up with a fun dessert. Once you agree on your treat, shop for and prepare together. Have your dessert picnic style by the fireplace or by candlelight. Make it a family affair or keep it for after the kids are in bed! However it is done, make sure it is done together!
-
Wine and Chocolate:
This can be done with you and your partner or with a group of people. Simply purchase several different types of wine (or if joining a group, ask everyone to bring a favorite wine), and have a wine tasting paired with small chocolates. This is a great way for you and your partner to spend time alone at home or a great idea for a group of single friends or couples. Make sure to have small pieces of paper and pens available so you or your guest can write down a new favorite wine to try!
-
Photo Collage:
A photo collage of some of your favorite times together can be very easy and inexpensive to make. You can collect photos and add them to a collage frame, or you can upload some of your favorite pics and use the photo department at CVS or Walgreens. They have several options for fun photo collages that are inexpensive and can be done on the same day. All you need to do is find a frame.
Of course, you and your partner can always come up with your own fun, creative ideas and even make it a yearly tradition. Just remember that whatever you chose to do with your partner for Valentine’s Day, the point is to show your love and appreciation for one another. Have fun, spend time together!Sometimes the simple things make the most impact when you are expressing love!
