Are you going to singles events and not meeting anyone? Or, are you avoiding singles events because you don’t know what to do or how to start a conversation? I know it can be frustrating and humbling to put yourself out there and not meet anyone. It takes courage to walk into a room full of singles hoping to find your match. Navigating the singles mixer is an art that you can learn. I will reveal the secret techniques that will help you not only enjoy singles events but maybe even find your perfect match.
-
The right attitude is a must!
If you head out desperate or depressed, that is the energy you will put out, and it will definitely not be attractive. It is much better to head out with zero expectations. Attend the event to have fun without specific expectations or an agenda. Feeling confident and positive about the evening will attract others to you. Confidence is sexy. The right mindset can also eliminate any stress you might be feeling. This is the perfect opportunity to meet some new people and practice your conversation skills.
-
Work the room.
Make eye contact with as many people as you can throughout the evening. Approach and talk to a variety of people. It is ok to talk to someone you might not be interested in dating; they might have a friend that is perfect for you. Besides, it is a good chance to practice your conversation and flirting skills. Don’t just focus on one person and spend the whole evening talking to them. I suggest you spend 5 or 10 minutes talking to one person and then move on. You can come back to them later if you want to continue a conversation.
For women especially, if you go in a group, be sure to split up and move about the room independently; otherwise, you are not as approachable. You came to meet new people not to socialize with your friends.
-
Flirt
This is the perfect time to practice your flirting skills. Be engaging and ask the other person questions to show you are interested in them. Smile, make eye contact, touch their arm briefly, and laugh. This is just a first meeting so keep it light and fun.
-
Close the deal.
If you talk to someone you would like to see again, ask for the next meeting. Give them a business card, make a suggestion for another meeting and then walk away. Simply say, “If you are interested…”
This takes the pressure off of both of you. You can feel braver in making the suggestion since you are not waiting for a response. The other person does not feel pressured into making a decision at that moment either. Remember, you can ask for a second meeting with more than one person.
Now go out mix, mingle and have fun! You never know when you are going to meet the right one, so look your best and always have a good attitude.
